These miniatures came originally from a desire to have less waste. While painting my more figurative pieces, I often found that I had too much paint on my brush, or when I’d finished a piece and was going to clear off my palette and still had some left on there. Instead of wiping it off onto a tissue to be thrown away or just cleaning up, I decided to put it down on paper.

Sometimes, it’s difficult to just sit and start painting, like a writer’s block. With these, there’s little pressure, and even having done a small thing is often enough to get the ball rolling on bigger things. I have found that I’ve learned a lot about how the paints interact with each other from them, informing and inspiring larger pieces in ways I did not expect.
