Do you ever have sales?
The short answer is no. The slightly longer answer is that these are individually handmade from start to finish, out of high quality materials and with a lot of care, and the prices given reflect that.
Are your pieces limited edition?
Unless stated as an individual listing, no, and there will often be other, similar, pieces. There are a limited number made each launch simply due to time constraints, but I intend to make more in the future once I have cycled through several designs. So, while there will be more, it might be a while before they come back once they are sold.
Why do you use leather?
The leather I use comes from British cows, which are raised for milking and eating. I believe that if we are going to ‘use’ an animal, we should use all of them. Historically, we would also use the bones and horns as well, for drinking from, and making decorative buttons and brooches out of, for breaking into needles and other tools.
Leather is a renewable, biodegradable, ancient material. It is durable and hardwearing, and should last for years.
It’s been a few months, my piece looks different?!
Leather ages and patinas beautifully. Embrace the marks and wear! It should become softer, more flexible, and will also darken in colour. It will hold the marks of your life - and whatever you spill on it, so if you would like to keep it clean in that way do be more careful. All of mine have a bit of paint or ink on them, but I quite like that.
How do I care for my piece?
It’ll thank you for a clean and condition with a leather soap once a year or so, I recommend Fiebing’s Saddle soap. Please note that this will darken your leather slightly, so use with care, however leather will also darken over time naturally anyway.
Another way of conditioning your pieces is with an oil. I use hempseed oil but olive, jojoba or any other will also work fine. With a scrap of fabric, rub gently into the piece: use sparingly, and be aware that even if it looks uneven to begin with it will even itself out if left alone. Again, this process darkens the leather, and remember you can always add more but you cannot take it off once applied. If you have any further questions please don’t hesitate to ask.
If you have spilled water on your piece, don’t worry. It’ll dry pretty quickly, though I suggest leaving it folded if it’s a folded piece, and if it’s a bag stuffing it with newspaper if possible is a good idea although not essential, as this will help it hold it’s shape.
